Insulation Installation in Kingston Homes: What to Expect Before, During, and After

How to Prepare, What Happens On Site, and What Comes After

Getting insulation installed is an important part of any home addition or new build. The smoother the process, the better the outcome. At Ecocomfort, we work directly with homeowners, builders, and contractors to make sure everything goes to plan. Whether you’re insulating a brand-new space or expanding your current one, we show up on time, protect the worksite, and keep things clean.

We know how important it is to respect your home, especially when you’re still living in it during the project. That’s why we take extra care to keep work areas tidy, minimize disruption, and communicate clearly throughout the job.

Before Your Appointment: What to Expect

We start every project with a detailed on-site consultation. This isn’t just a quick quote. It’s a chance for us to understand the scope of your project, walk the space with you or your contractor, and answer any questions you have about the process.

During the site visit, we’ll:

  • Review your plans or existing structure
  • Evaluate access points, surface types, and ventilation
  • Identify which insulation type is best for your goals, timeline, and budget
  • Take note of anything that could affect installation (weather exposure, framing stages, etc.)

If your build requires permits, we’ll also explain what documentation we provide to meet building code or municipal requirements. That includes testing data and manufacturer compliance, something many inspectors ask for.

Once we’ve gone over everything, we’ll provide a detailed quote and timeline so you can plan accordingly.

During Installation: What Happens On-Site

On installation day, our team arrives on time and checks in with you or your contractor to confirm the work plan. We do a final walkthrough of the site to make sure everything’s ready, and then we get to work.

Arrival & Setup

  • Walk the site again and confirm details
  • Protect floors, walls, and surrounding areas with tarps and barriers
  • Set up equipment safely and efficiently to minimize disruption

Insulation Installation

We work with both spray foam and Rockwool (stone wool) insulation, depending on the needs of your space, project goals, and building code requirements.

Spray foam expands to create a seamless air and moisture barrier, making it ideal for full builds, additions, and areas where energy efficiency is the top priority.

Rockwool is a dense, fire-resistant material that’s excellent for sound control, moisture resistance, and shared walls or utility areas.

In some cases, we may also install fiberglass or blown-in insulation, especially in garages, attics, or other areas where these materials are the best fit.

Each job is different, but here’s a general idea of how long things take:

  • Home additions or partial builds: typically completed in 1 day
  • Whole-home projects: may take 1–2 days depending on size and complexity

On-Site Testing

Throughout the install, we perform testing to ensure the job meets both manufacturer specifications and Ontario building code standards. This includes:

  • Material density testing
  • Substrate temperature checks
  • Substrate moisture readings

We document these results, and for new builds that require permits, we provide the compliance paperwork you’ll need for inspection.

Cleanliness & Professionalism

We know many of our customers are still living in the home during the project, so we take extra care to keep the space clean. We contain the work area, dispose of waste materials properly, and do a final sweep before wrapping up.

After Installation: What You Should Know

Once the insulation is installed, we complete a final walkthrough to ensure everything was done to spec. We double-check coverage, clean up the site, and make sure you have everything you need moving forward.

Post-Install Inspection

We visually inspect the install and confirm all required areas were covered properly. If spray foam was used, we also confirm that it cured correctly and met density, temperature, and moisture standards based on our earlier testing.

Documentation & Compliance

For new builds or permitted jobs, we provide any required documentation. such as material specs, testing results, and manufacturer compliance information. This is often needed during inspection or final sign-off by your builder or city.

Clean-Up & Re-Entry

We clean the worksite thoroughly, remove any debris, and dispose of materials safely.
If spray foam was installed, you may notice a faint smell initially. We ensure proper ventilation and will let you know when it’s safe to re-enter the space.
Most homeowners can return to the area within a few hours, but we’ll always provide specific guidance based on the conditions that day.

What to Expect Next

You may notice improved comfort right away, fewer drafts, more consistent temperatures, and quieter rooms.
If this was part of a larger build or renovation, we’ll coordinate with your builder or trades to ensure a smooth handoff to the next phase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to leave my home during spray foam insulation?

In most cases, yes, at least temporarily. Spray foam needs time to cure and off-gas properly. We’ll let you know exactly how long you’ll need to vacate, based on the size and ventilation of your space.

How do I know the insulation was installed correctly?

We follow strict testing protocols during installation, including checks for material density, surface temperature, and moisture. We also provide documentation if needed for permits or inspections.

Will the work area be messy?

No. We take care to protect your space with tarps and barriers, and we clean up thoroughly after the job. If you’re living in the home during the project, we’ll work with extra care to minimize disruption.

Can you coordinate with my builder or other trades?

Yes. We regularly work alongside general contractors and other trades on new builds and renovations. We’re happy to coordinate scheduling, access, and staging to keep your project on track.
